Telescope drawing6/19/2023 ![]() ![]() However I went to an 8" for the larger light gathering capabilities, and I had access to a larger volume printer. *My original design used a 6" mirror, which does fit on a 300x200x300 printer. However I have left in my work with rDUINO Scope as I still think it is a great system and I am sure other, more competent people than I, will have better luck. I did run into problems getting it to work correctly with my setup and unfortunately had to move onto an alternative, OnStep. I originally chose rDUINO Scope for the guiding electronics and GOTO functions. ![]() More recently on the Arduino Blog is a GoTo Mount for a DSLR. If you have a telescope but simply want to have a go at low cost Astrophotography I wrote another instrcutable using the Raspberry Pi Zero & Raspberry Pi Camera. The French dictionary Le Petit Robert suggests the date of 1694 for the arrival of the word péperin in the French language to refer to a volcanic tuff employed as construction stone in the Roman region. Brown) volcanic rock formed of small grains of sand, cinders, etc. In the Oxford Dictionary (1982) peperino is defined as: “n. According to the Penguin Dictionary of Geology (1972), peperino is defined as: “A rock of mixed pyroclastic and sedimentary origin, including pyroclastic material, and weathered and eroded volcanic material (including scoriae, cinders, etc. 1960), that is a lithified, poorly sorted, deposit consisting of “floating” clasts suspended in a fine-grained matrix (Menzies 2009). Generally speaking, peperino is a kind of “diamictite” (sensu Flint et al. The term peperino (from the Latin root piper, pepper) was originally established in Italy to define peculiar light porous volcanic rocks with a granular texture (resembling ground pepper), used as construction stones since pre-Roman times. Our review is also addressed to archaeologists concerned with restoration initiatives and provenance studies, as well as to volcanologists studying the genetic processes of pyroclastic rocks and related naming conventions. Indeed, despite the common macroscopic aspect, peperino rocks can be associated with several different eruptive styles and emplacement mechanisms. In this review, we provide an overview of the use of this term, and an exhaustive review of the different rocks of central Italy defined as peperino, describing their distinctive textural features, as well as their eruptive sources and outcrop areas. ![]() These rocks are still in use for building ornaments, street furniture and artworks in central Italy today. In particular, these resistant volcanic rocks have been widely employed by the Etruscans and Romans since the seventh century BCE to produce sarcophagi and dimension stones, as well as architectural and ornamental elements. Among these, the best-known examples are represented by some phreatomagmatic deposits of the Colli Albani Volcanic District, near Rome (Italy), and ignimbrite deposits of the Cimini Mountains near Viterbo (Northern Latium, Italy), which have been widely employed in artefacts of historical and archaeological interest. The name peperino derives from the Italian word pepe (from the Latin word piper, pepper) and has been used in the common language for lithified volcanic deposits characterized by light grey through dark grey tones and granular textures, resembling that of ground pepper. ![]()

It used the ARP table to get this information. The issue with the current method of identifying mobile devices is that Lansweeper can only retrieve a MAC address of a mobile device if it is on the same subnet as a scanning server. Halo ce pc6/18/2023 ![]() Because the story needs to take place within this small chunk of Zeta Halo (less an expansive ringworld and more a modest national park), missions can't break off into desert vistas, frozen valleys or dense urban warzones. The Forerunners must have loved their trip to Seattle, because Infinite's world is all minor variations on the same Pacific Northwest environment. Halo Finiteīut Halo Infinite is still an open world, and even when it guns back into a more traditional pace in the latter half, it can't escape that structure. It's here where all those toys you may have unlocked can finally come into play-one final effort at an open world Halo, before Infinite sort of gives up on pretending to be an open world entirely in its final hours. There's perhaps one mission that makes use of the open world structure, a mid-game level that tasks you with crossing kilometres of space to infiltrate Forerunner beacons fiercely held by Banished forces. Loading a Razorback with rowdy rocket-toting Marines never gets old. Why cling onto a long-range Sidekick variant when a mission just tossed you into a pit of beefed-up Elites? Powerful weapon variations can be acquired by taking down high-value targets in the open world, but levels are constantly throwing completely different challenges in your face. ![]() Main story missions are tightly controlled and rarely let you just rock up with a tank. See, Halo doesn't lend itself well to a drip-feed of unlocks. They're fun, but incidental-and while the larger strongholds provide a more structured, traditionally 'Halo' challenge (shut down a refinery, demolish a weapons cache, punch through a blockade), I rarely felt the pull to break off from the main path to devote time to them. While heading to your next plot beat you might find a squad of marines to rescue or an FOB (bases from which to fast travel and summon weapons and vehicles) to capture. Instead, these activities feel more like diversions between main story missions. This isn't Far Cry: Ringworld-in fact, you'll find the open world to be surprisingly small. But while your AI sidekick (more on her later) immediately floods your map screen with icons, don't be fooled. Introduced after two more traditionally linear missions, Infinite introduces you to the open-ish plains of Zeta Halo. That grapple is also essential for exploring Halo Infinite's open world. ![]() Playing with my regular Halo buds online is still a blast, but I'm quickly burning out of Infinite's arenas. The game's first limited-time mode only exacerbated problems with an uninspiring cosmetics pool and frustrating challenges, and while 343 says it's listening, these are errors free-to-play games learned not to make years ago. ![]() It's incredible stuff, but one that's hindered by limited modes, somewhat flat weapon balancing, and a progression system that straight-up sucks. I'm only looking at Infinite's campaign in this review, but that's only because we've already been playing multiplayer with the rest of you for the past month. ![]()

The looter katrina6/18/2023 ![]() ![]() After having read the first few books in the series I felt that only James Lee Burke could deliver a story centered around Katrina that was both evocative and heartfelt ( "bodies wrapped tight like mummies in the gray and brown detritus left by the receding waters.") He does not disappoint. I knew that this story dealt with Hurricane Katrina and it's impact when I first started reading the series. Even if you have never been to New Orleans or Southern Louisiana you will come to know it, to taste the foods, hear the music, see the sunrise on the bayou, or listen to the the rain on a tin roof. His characters are vivid and come alive and you become immersed in the story. James Lee Burke's prose is rich and lyrical. I have been reading all of the books in the Dave Robicheaux series since the beginning of the year. The book that has influenced his life the most is the 1929 family tragedy "The Sound and the Fury" by William Faulkner. ![]() Their daughter, Alafair Burke, is also a mystery novelist. Shortly before his move to Montana, he taught for several years in the Creative Writing program at Wichita State University in the 1980s.īurke and his wife, Pearl, split their time between Lolo, Montana, and New Iberia, Louisiana. He was Writer in Residence at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, succeeding his good friend and posthumous Pulitzer Prize winner John Kennedy Toole, and preceding Ernest Gaines in the position. He has worked at a wide variety of jobs over the years, including working in the oil industry, as a reporter, and as a social worker. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Missouri, receiving a BA and MA from the latter. He has twice received the Edgar Award for Best Novel, for Black Cherry Blues in 1990 and Cimarron Rose in 1998.īurke was born in Houston, Texas, but grew up on the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast. James Lee Burke is an American author best known for his mysteries, particularly the Dave Robicheaux series. This is not just a superb crime novel, it is potentially THE fictional chronicle of a disaster whose human dimensions America is still struggling to process. You can feel the undercurrents of rage and pain beneath the narrative, making this not only his most personal and deeply felt book for some time, but quite possibly his best novel to date. The nightmarish landscape created by Katrina seems the perfect setting for Burke's almost Biblical visions of good and evil - it is as if he had to wait for this disaster to find the occasion to match his emotionally supercharged prose. The story begins with the shooting of two would-be looters in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, and then follows a motley group of characters - from street thugs to a big-time mob boss, from a junkie priest to a sadistic psychopath - as their stories converge on a cache of stolen diamonds, while the storm turns the Big Easy into a lawless wasteland of apocalyptic proportions. But amid images of black looters, some sympathy threatens to give way to anger and disdain. This is James Lee Burke's latest mystery featuring Dave Robicheaux. No one questions that whites have been moved by the suffering of blacks, and vice versa. "And I don't expect that feeling to go away anytime soon." "Black people are mad because they feel the reason for the slow response is because those people are black and they didn't support George Bush," said Ron Walters, a professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland. In conversations at restaurants, homes, offices, on talk radio and online, it's clear that many blacks and whites view the effects of Katrina differently.Īlthough no group is monolithic in opinion or emotion, many blacks are outraged that so many of their own were left behind in New Orleans with no evacuation plan and no urgent effort to rescue them. Nobody wants to see any American suffer." But people are doing what they can for Americans. "The African-American community has obviously been very heavily affected. "That Americans would somehow in a color-affected way decide who to help and who not to help, I, I just don't believe it," she said. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the most prominent black person in the Bush administration, downplayed the criticism. ![]() These are American citizens," Watson said. Good starter telescope6/18/2023 ![]() ![]() This well-constructed refractor telescope comes with a selection of three eyepieces as well as a (plastic) 3x Barlow, giving you a nice selection of magnification options right out of the box. If you live in an area with large amounts of light pollution, your viewing will be limited to closer, brighter objects, especially if you choose one of the lower-aperture models. Don’t, however, expect stellar (heh, heh) image quality this is truly a hobbyist telescope, good for spotting birds, ships, planets, and lunar features, but you won’t be able to see nearly as much fine detail as with more expensive models. If you find yourself in this position, you could do worse than selecting whichever is the biggest-aperture telescope from this range that falls into your budget. These same people will also appreciate the simple how-to video and computer-based star and moon atlases that come with the telescope. Best for BeginnersĪll in all, these are all pretty decent starter telescopes for someone who doesn’t really know what to expect and therefore wants something that’s fairly capable but not too hard to use. DSLR camera attachments are also supposedly available, but telescopes in this range aren’t really stable or precise enough to make this worthwhile. You can use a smartphone to take photos through the eyepiece, which works fairly well if you buy a bracket to hold it in place. None of them are especially well-built, unfortunately it’s difficult to adjust your telescope precisely, while a finger carelessly bumping into the tube will probably move your target out of view. The alt-az mounts on each are also not the same, with the 50 mm version having only basic support on a rudimentary tripod, while its more expensive cousins have steadier bases that offer fine-tuning over elevation, bearing, or both. A 2x Barlow lens further allows you to tweak the size of your image to frame an object perfectly, though it won’t really help you to push the limits at maximum zoom. ![]() This is achieved by swapping out the included eyepieces, of which each model has either two or three tailored to their optics, giving a decent range of viewing options. Though this telescope is of the refractive type, it includes a 90º prism so that objects appear the right way around, meaning that it’s much easier to navigate around the night sky or a landscape.įor each telescope, the prospective buyer has a range of viewing powers from which they can choose – from about 10x to over 100x. This means that the low-f/ models generally offer lower effective magnifications and show greater distortion at any given level of zoom. Different StrokesĪside from the wide variety of aperture sizes available, you’ll find that the focal ratios of the various options differ greatly. The differences between the various options are pretty significant, though. Recognizing this, Meade produces a whole range of telescopes based on the same basic design. With telescopes, as with much in life, what’s good enough for one person just won’t be sufficient for another. ![]()

Slumber party panic reaction6/18/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The original Slumber Party Massacre was intended as a parody, but producers pushed for a more conventional slasher film. This balance of humour and horror is perfectly captured by Esterhazy between the script and the staging, I had moments where - in my house, all alone - I was literally laughing out loud at the delightful absurdity. Both of Keilly’s scripts have a fun take on the original film that sprinkles social commentary in a way that keeps it from feeling heavy-handed. Their inability to run away and even their names (which literally include Guy 1 and Guy 2) poke fun at the treatment of female characters in 80s horror as a whole, while notes on toxic masculinity offer logistical reasons for very bad ideas.įor those familiar with Leprechaun Returns, you may feel a familiar vibe with Slumber Party Massacre. The slow motion pillow fights and shower scene are a perfect way to lambast the sexualization of the original franchise (which was strongly encouraged by Corman, despite how the directors felt about it). There are so many details that show a deep and loving respect for the original films - character names, props, a kid sister, and Russ Thorn’s detail-accurate recreation - but perhaps the greatest homage the film offers is its treatment of its male characters. But Esterhazy’s Slumber Party Massacre excels at setting you up for a run-of-the-mill slasher before completely subverting your expectations. There’s drinking, dancing, and a deranged killer. In the film, a group of girls go to a remote cabin for a good old fashioned slumber party. With 2021’s Slumber Party Massacre, however, writer Suzanne Keilly ( Leprechaun Returns, Ash vs Evil Dead ) and director Danishka Esterhazy ( Level 16, The Banana Splits Movie ) have found a perfect celebration of the original film and its feminist intent, while adding their own distinct improvements. It’s not uncommon to remake a popular horror film - some are grittier than others - but it’s not often that a horror remake is able to capture the true spirit of its original. Two (loosely connected) sequels followed, creating the first (and only) slasher franchise entirely written and directed by women. In 1982, director Amy Holden Jones took a subversive slasher parody script by famed feminist writer Rita Mae Brown and - with the support of producer Roger Corman - made a cult classic piece of 80s horror history, Slumber Party Massacre. ![]() |
